The Problem with Gun Control

Hi. I’m Tanis. I am writing this because I have a few concerns. I've been watching the news and there is non-stop talk about gun-control. As I continued to listen and watch, I soon understood why. The government wants to take away our second amendment. I’m going to tell you why they shouldn't.

Gun control goes against the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution, which clearly states, that we have a right to bear arms. The Second Amendment was written for each and every individual American. People have fought, died, and made great sacrifices so that the constitution could be written and kept. Taking away our right to bear arms would put all the conflicts fought and sacrifices made to waste.

The Second Amendment was created so the each and every individual American citizen can defend themselves against criminals, foreign invasion (why do you think the Japanese didn't invade the U.S. during WWII?), and from our very own government. Take away that right and we lose the ability to maintain our freedoms from those in the government that wish to take them away. We are a republic, not any other form of government. We are, “One Nation under God”, not the government and defenseless citizens.

If you take away one amendment you may as well take all of them away. Because as soon as someone sees it is OK to change the constitution, there wouldn't be a single word left of the original constitution within a year of people changing it. Take away the second amendment, or any amendment, and you will be destroying the foundation our country was build upon.

I go hunting with my father and my grandfather and it gives us an opportunity to bond that most families don’t get. What would you do if somebody tried taking away the bonding time between your family? Also there are people who own gun shops, who work for gun manufacturers, and many other jobs all use guns. Taking away the second amendment would put millions or people out of jobs.

My last point is that the problem is the people using the guns. Not the guns themselves. For example: if you put a drunken person behind the wheel of a car and they kill an innocent person in an accident, who do you blame? The car? No you blame the drunk driver. So why blame guns when people use guns for violence. Shouldn’t you blame the person pulling the trigger instead? Guns are tools we use. Just like cars, a wrench, a hammer, or any other tool. It is what any good marksman would tell you. “It isn’t the gun that kills; it’s the person squeezing the trigger.”

If someone really wants to kill someone else, they'll find a way to do so with or without a gun. If I wanted to kill someone right now in my own house, I can look around and count over a dozen items I could use to kill someone with. If I wanted to kill someone in the streets then I'd imagine walking around with a baseball bat in the summer is a lot less suspicious than walking around with a gun.
Gun control is not only unconstitutional, but it is guaranteed to fail.
